The dream of a colorful Brazil brought us here as curious tourists and we fell in love. A love that after a couple of visits became an addiction. After working as volunteers in Rio and traveling around the country we finally found our heart: Búzios. This was the place! The final decision was made when we found our oasis in Búzios, an amazing house just a few steps from the ocean, 400 meters from all the restaurants and life at Rua das Pedras and Orla Bardot, but still in a very calm area. So in 2012 we left Sweden and we dared to try…
Villa Balthazar is small five room Bed & Breakfast run by our family (Petra, Felix, Chloe, Leon and our small dog Bella) located in Búzios Brazil. We arrived here with Chloe only four months old and for the next coming seven months we created Villa Balthazar – which is our home aswell. Five external rooms surrounded by a beautiful garden, a relaxing pool and our living room as a common area during the day.
All rooms at Villa Balthazar are each individually decorated with a lot of love for details and comfort. All our favourite things from Sweden are brought to create a soul that can’t be put together without coming from the heart. Our Swedish root are obvious and we love to share the best parts with our guests. Both The Pool House and The Garden House each has it’s own flare.
Our roots in Europe, Scandinavia and Sweden are obvious and reflected in the interior at Villa Balthazar. It is very important to us that you, as a guest, feel comfortable and enjoy spending time with your travel companion in our rooms.
The natural yogurt, the granola, the jams, the sweets and the bread are all home made by us. This will of course be served together high quality brazillian coffee/tea organic, fruits, juice and organic eggs.
Villa Balthazar is located in a very calm, residential area, only a few minutes walk from Rua das Pedras and seconds from the quiet beach called Praia do Canto. The perfect location on the peninsula Armação dos Búzios.
In Sweden the breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day.
Close to Villa Balthazar our forth baby – Balthazar Bakery – can be found. It’s our sourdough bakery where locals go to get a unique bread, service and products. So, strait from the oven comes all breads and sweets to our breakfast which will be enjoyed together with fresh Brazillian coffee, homemade jams, yoghurt and a lot more. Walk Right in
When you wish to spend time at Villa Balthazar, the social area is open for our guest most of the day (from 08:30 until 19:00). There you can find sofas, a small library, games, a TV with international channels etc. The social area is connected to two different outdoor areas. One patio facing the garden and the other one is located on the other side of the house surrounded by flowers and hummingbirds. By the pool you can enjoy a cool drink while you are listening to the waves from beach Praia do Canto mixed together with the sounds of frogs and birds from the small lake just behind Villa Balthazar.
Beautiful accommodations with wonderful hosts
We spent a New Year's trip at Villa Balthazar a while back and had such a wonderful experience — highly, highly recommended.
Location: Across the road from the sea and a beautiful beach, a few minutes walk into town, perfect location. So much to do and see in town when it comes to restaurants, shopping, bars, clubs, boat excursions, etc.
Accommodation: Lovely, clean and quiet rooms surrounding a beautiful courtyard with a pool off to the side.
Food: The breakfasts are INCREDIBLE, there is no other way to put it. Everything is locally grown/sourced (I believe some from the hosts' own garden) and homemade that morning, right down to the yoghurt! I would suggest skimping on dinner to make room — you will not be underfed!
Hosts: Petra and Felix are the best part — ask them anything, they are always happy to help and give you recommendations. Very kind and accommodating people with adorable, well-behaved children 🙂

Fantastic setting and service
We as a family have been several times to stay at Villa Balthazar whilst staying in Buzios. The place is perfectly situated with a short walk to the busy streets of Rua das Pedras with all its shops and restaurants.
The place is unique because of its homely feeling and friendly owners Petra and Felix. It resembles a Boutique hotel, nicely decorated and just the right size. Being there as a family worked perfectly as it has a nice pool and court-yard with open space. This together with things you can borrow for a day at the beach makes it ideal when travelling with kids.
One of the highlights is the breakfast. As they have their own sourdough bakery you will enjoy excellent bread together with all the extras. The bakery in it self is worth an extra stop (just a mile away) when in Buzios.
So if you are looking for a high quality place to stay with that little bit of "extra" then you should certainly come here.
